The Incredible Power of Choice

Nothing describes your character more than the choices you make. In fact, your choices are determined by your character. In the end, you will not be judged by what you have claimed to be or even appeared to be but what your choices have proven you to be. It was not God that gave man free will, that was SatanÂ’s lie. God gave you the incredible power of choice, by which each of us choose one of two wills, GodÂ’s or the enemyÂ’s.

You can choose the will of God by surrender to His Son, Jesus Christ, or you can choose to be a prodigal by rejecting the will of God. Nothing proves your likeness to the divine more than your right to choose. Animals and other creatures exist by their animalistic instincts. Ships and all man made creations must be guided by their masters. Our Father created us in His image and empowered us to decide our own greatness or demise. The power of Adam’s sin has crippled man’s power of choice but did not destroy it. “And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him.” (Genesis 5:24) He chose the right choices. A multitude died in the flood that followed because of their choices.

The great story of Moses exemplifies the wisdom of choices. The Bible says of Moses, “Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season; Esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt: for he had respect unto the recompence of the reward. By faith he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king: for he endured, as seeing him who is invisible.” (Hebrews 11:25-27) Moses’ choices literally moved God to act in his behalf. His life is a picture of miracles which follow choices.

Joshua cried out to Israel, “And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.” (Joshua 24:15) This godly man was the master of his house because of his choices. God never chooses a single individual unless he is a single man, by which I mean unmarried. God chooses families and if the man He chooses will be the master of his family, that family will be used by God.

The Bible is full of men that God wanted to use, but their character was flawed. They were unable because of their flawed character to make wise choices. Eli, the priest of Israel was rejected because he chose to allow his sons to defile the House of God. King Saul was chosen because of his excellent spirit but later rejected because he lost the power of obedient choices. Judas Iscariot was one of the chosen twelve disciples of our Lord but “by transgression failed” and went to his own place.

You were created with the power of choices. As a “born-again Christian” redeemed from Adam’s bondage, you now have even greater power to choose. Devotion to Christ is a daily choice. The person that says “I want to serve God,” but finds himself unable to choose the right is simply admitting a character problem. Thank God there is an answer. Any person without the character to make great choices has the answer in the cleansing blood and renewing power of the Holy Spirit. Being “born-again” is a character change. “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” (II Corinthians 5:17)

Quit trying to defend your flawed character and go to God for a new creation. Confess your inability to make wise choices and let the Master become the Lord of your life. He will supernaturally transform your character so that wise Biblical choices will quickly become the reflection of the new man. You will love the change that you will see in your own life.
