Out of Eternity He Came

The Son of God did not just enter the human race from divinity, He also came out of eternity. Time was a creation of sin that resulted because man took the forbidden fruit. The human family was created to live forever and their home was a place where death was an unknown stranger. The perfection of the Garden of Eden was uniquely divine and covered with an ethereal glory that welcomed the Father to walk in its purity. The evening shadows, if there were such, fell upon Him and His beloved handiwork as they walked in bliss together. Death was as foreign to them as it was to the Divine Presence in their midst.

A beautiful creature, walking in its creative loveliness gave itself to a fallen angel that was well-known in the garden. If we fail to see that Lucifer was a part of the garden scene before he rebelled against God, we will not understand the story. The prophet Ezekiel spoke of Satan before Satan’s fall with the following words, “Thou hast been in Eden the garden of God; every precious stone was thy covering, the sardius, topaz, and the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper, the sapphire, the emerald, and the carbuncle, and gold: the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day that thou wast created. Thou art the anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee so: thou wast upon the holy mountain of God; thou hast walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire. Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee.” (Ezekiel 28:13-15) The creature that Satan used and Adam and Eve that Satan deceived knew this breathtaking angel and had respect for the glory that the Eternal Creator had given him. In one great sweep of evil, Satan had led a rebellion of angels and quickly swept into the garden by the beautiful creature to deceive Adam and Eve.

The Great God had given both His angels and His earthly family the right to serve Him. This right to serve Him carried with it the possibility of diverted attention. The limitations that gripped the universe on this fateful day are almost too cataclysmic to describe. The eternal universe fell into the limitations of time and space unknown in its creative greatness. God had commanded the man, saying, “…Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.” (Genesis 2:16b-17)

Death and the limitations of time and space were impossible without sin. The one word in the Bible that reflects everything contrary to the Eternal God and all that He represents is “sin.” Suddenly, the universe began a downward spiral that has continued to the present day. Heaven and earth were intimately joined until sin and rebellion entered the universe and the created home of man and woman. The Bible is the revelation of this story of sin and God’s great redemptive plan to bring us back together again. The only covering that the Creator would accept so that Adam and Eve could return to limited fellowship were garments provided by a blood offering. The Father slew one of His beautiful animals to make coats to provide a temporary covering. Even as the cry of a dying creature is heard in the garden a hill called Calvary appears in the distance. The Son of God Himself would have to die to finish the redemptive process and to unite eternity with time.

That day arrived at the “fullness of the time” that the Eternal Son would step across this incredible divide to live in the realm of time temporarily. The Apostle Paul worded it perfectly. “But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.” (Galatians 4:4-5) The very words “fullness of time” reflects the redemptive process by which time will return to eternity and be no more. The shadow of that day was seen in Jerusalem as the sun reflected on the cross and cast its image across the hillside. Isaiah had clearly stated, “For thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy.” (Isaiah 57:15a) The Eternal One that was seen by Nebuchadnezzar in a furnace of fire had become a baby in a virgin’s womb. The Holy Ghost had planted a Divine seed in a flesh body so God could become a man. The world has never been the same since God’s Eternal Son walked on a human road.

Do not think it strange that our world system is trying to destroy Christmas. It would be strange if they were not. The shadows of time and space are beginning to fade and the rebellion against Christ is but the echo. Paul said, “…the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now….to wit, the redemption of our body.” (Romans 8:22b-23b) The Eternal One came and gave His soul for our salvation and a blood sacrifice to redeem the total universe. The reason Jesus Christ is seen in Revelation chapters four to nineteen as a “Lamb slain” reflects His death as the bridge across time. He is redeeming His created universe so all creation can once again be eternal. Out of eternity He came that soon into eternity we shall enter. It’s all just a matter of time until time will be no more. Hallelujah!
