The Marvelous New Heaven

It seems extreme to speak of a Heaven that is even more marvelous than Heaven already is. But the Book of Revelation makes it plain that God is going to create a “New Heaven” and a “New Earth.” The very language He uses proves that He is planning something so magnificent that its description is beyond words. The Holy Spirit said, “And I saw a new Heaven and a new earth: for the first Heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of Heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband” (Revelation 21:1-2). Our Great God is full of unfathomable and unfailing plans for our future.

While it is perfectly grand to simply wait until we arrive to see all of the glory that the Father has designed, the Bible would suggest it’s also okay to see a little of it in advance. “But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God” (1 Corinthians 2:9-10). Let’s be cautious as we consider some of the exceptional changes that we can expect.

Satan has been a part of our Biblical scene from the beginning. Before we were created, he was a beautiful angel and held a strong position in the Father’s Kingdom. This lovely creature that may well have provided Heaven with his exceptional music decided that he wanted the Father’s throne. He lost his place and the Father’s Son saw him falling from Heaven. He wasn’t barred from Heaven but lost his dwelling place and became a vagabond in this great universe.

Since that day he has been the accuser of men that seek to please the Father. He also labors to hinder the holy angels that busy themselves with the Father’s pleasures. An angel confessed to Daniel that a prince from Satan’s realm had withstood him for twenty-one days as he came to this servant of the Lord with the Father’s answer, “And he said unto me, O Daniel, a man greatly beloved, understand the words that I speak unto thee, and stand upright: for unto thee am I now sent. And when he had spoken this word unto me, I stood trembling. Then said he unto me, Fear not, Daniel: for from the first day that thou didst set thine heart to understand, and to chasten thyself before thy God, thy words were heard, and I am come for thy words. But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me one and twenty days: but, lo, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me” (Daniel 10:11-13). Heaven has tolerated this scroundel as the great redemption plan has unfolded and stretched toward the final finishing moments. Almost simultaneously with the Rapture, Satan will be cast from the Father’s presence and forever forbidden from the celestial world. He will never even see the New Heavens, much less seek to render it unclean by his evil presence.

Presently, the great hosts of angels that call Heaven their home are busy on duty as ministers to the saints in their struggles with Satan. “Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation?” (Hebrews 1:14). The angels ascend and descend at the command of “The Lord of Sabbaoth” to care for our needs. Jesus Christ is that Lord and has all power in Heaven and in earth, so Heaven is never free of our burden and cares. Heaven is the staging ground of these ministering spirits, “And in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone” (Luke 4:11). The Father has not left His saints to fight alone.

The Heavenly Temple in God’s Capitol City is the center of His glory. Here is the great altar of which the Ark of the Covenant was but a golden shadow. This is the grand center of the High Priesthood of Jesus Christ. Here, He intercedes for the saints continually because there is no night here. Every burden and care that has been entrusted to Him is remembered. The Son of God has the Father’s ear to defend our cause and accomplish the Father’s actions. In his dying minutes, Stephen looked within the Heavenly realm and saw the exalted Son standing at the Father’s right hand. “But he, being full of the Holy Ghost, looked up steadfastly into Heaven, and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing on the right hand of God” (Acts 7:55). This business of redemption will be finished when the New Heaven appears.

The multitude of saints that are absent from the body, but present with the Lord, are waiting to return with Christ for the living Saints. Their presence in Heaven is without their glorified bodies. It is beyond my words to describe the future addition of this grand company with their shouts and worship throughout God’s New Heaven. Apostle Paul said that Jesus Christ would bring them with Him and wake up those that are awaiting resurrection, “For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him. For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. For the Lord himself shall descend from Heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first” (1 Thessalonians 4:14-16).

When this great Hallelujah Multitude reaches the shores of the present Heaven, it will certainly prove that something majestic is in the air. This event we call the Rapture will start the Redemption Apocalypse. We will arrive on time and will probably have the joy of watching from the Ivory City as Michael organizes his angelic battalions of angels. You will be out of place if you do not believe in shouting God’s praises because Heaven will be alive with glory. The devil and his evil hordes will be seen in great defeat as they depart the Heavens for their last time. Not one of his fallen angels will see the face of God again. There will still be a lot of glory in the present Heavens as the Marriage Supper occurs. The multitude of saints will see New Jerusalem waiting the moment that it will descend. I believe the rewards given at the Marriage Supper will conclude with our mansions in the New City and we will occupy the city while we rule the earth for the Millennium.

To tell the whole story of the coming New Heaven and New Earth is not for man to know at this present time. What I already know is certainly enough for me to say goodbye to this world and to live under the hope of tomorrow. Remember, “But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him” (1 Corinthians 2:9).

Hell And The Lake Of Fire

Saturday, February 6th, 2010

Did Jesus Christ die on a cruel cross just to give us a better life, to give us things, to make us rich, or was it a sin problem? The Holy Scripture leaves no question that sin will be judged and that the universe must be cleansed. If it was a sin problem, then it also was an eternal Hell problem and He took our place. He was made to be sin for us. “For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him” (2 Corinthians 5:21). There is no name under heaven that saves but Jesus Christ, because He endured sin’s darkness for us. Remember the eclipse of the sun and the earthquake while God in Christ was enduring the consequence of our sins. Our Savior said, “And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?” (Matthew 27:46). The word Hell is in the Bible fifty-five times. Jesus told about one man going to Hell and being tormented in fire, “And in hell he lifted up his eyes, being in torments” (Luke 16:23a). We are trying to answer questions that are not being misrepresented in many pulpits. Can a person get forgiveness after they are dead? Is there a place in between the earth and Heaven or Hell where someone can make up for sins they never forsook in life? Does a Christian have to forsake sin to be saved? Vicarious Intercession: Unfailing Prayer!

Prayer

Why does revival tarry and why does our nation continue to descend toward chaos? Millions are praying but something is missing. The church world has resorted to almost any gimmick necessary in order to fill the House of God. “The Flock That Rocks” is the theme of one mega-church that is bringing in the thousands. Do we have the right to argue when our prayer efforts are doing little to change our own Biblically-sound congregations? The sounds of fulfilled prophecy fill the news, the Rapture is eminent, and God’s Saints are duty bound to find the answers to revival.

God’s answer has always been effectual and fervent prayer. “The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much” (James 5:16b). When the Saints of God begin to pray as we are trained to do in the Scripture, it is impossible to fail. Every Salty Saint has got to believe that proper praying is invincible. God would be proven a liar if Biblical praying did not produce results every time. I’m determined to learn the secrets of praying until Hell trembles and Heaven lends its ear. Jesus said, “I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven” (Matthew 16:19a). Let’s join together until Heaven is unlocked.

The Bible is a book of “answered prayers.” The Holy Spirit spoke to Israel when they were experiencing a time just like our present time. “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. Now mine eyes shall be open, and mine ears attent unto the prayer that is made in this place” (II Chronicles 7:14-15). These were God’s people, but they were religious instead of spiritual. Sin had invaded their ranks and confession of their sin was overdue. Wickedness had defiled the land and the righteous had to lead the way in turning back to God.

God’s prophet Ezekiel heard the voice of God warning him of judgment unless His saints were willing to bear the shame of abominations in the House of God. First, the voice of Lord said, “Therefore will I also deal in fury: mine eye shall not spare, neither will I have pity: and though they cry in mine ears with a loud voice, yet will I not hear them” (Ezekiel 8:18). Then the Lord spoke about “vicarious intercession” on the part of the righteous. “And the LORD said unto him, Go through the midst of the city, through the midst of Jerusalem, and set a mark upon the foreheads of the men that sigh and that cry for all the abominations that be done in the midst thereof” (Ezekiel 9:4).

This prophet was told to begin at His sanctuary and to start with the ancient men who were before the house. The picture could not be clearer. The Saints of God had to be willing to treat the sins in His house as though they were their own sins. To see God’s house filled with compromise and departure from the truth must bring us to weeping and travailing. The church world has offended God and false religions have released unclean spirits all over the land.

Daniel knew that the time had come for the Jews to be released from Babylonian captivity. He set himself to praying, “We have sinned, and have committed iniquity, and have done wickedly, and have rebelled, even by departing from thy precepts and from thy judgments: O Lord, to us belongeth confusion of face, to our kings, to our princes, and to our fathers, because we have sinned against thee” (Daniel 9:5,8). This is clearly a man of God praying by “vicarious intercession.” There is not one time in Scripture that speaks of Daniel being a careless prophet before his God; yet, his love for his people made him one with their guilt.

The New Testament apostle to the Gentiles never lost his burden for the Jews. The most profound picture of identifying himself with his own kin is seen in his letter to the Romans. He said, “For I could wish that myself were accursed from Christ for my brethren, my kinsmen according to the flesh” (Romans 9:3). The epistles by the Holy Spirit from this man’s pen has brought millions to Jesus Christ, both Jews and Gentiles.

This burden of “vicarious intercession” never faded from Apostle Paul’s life. As the end appeared to be near, he wrote the Philippians of his desire to know the same passions as the Savior’s death. The word “vicarious” means to suffer in the place of or in lieu of another, to take their place. Paul declared, “That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death” (Philippians 3:10).

Our nation is reeling with the weight of abominations, blasphemies, and filth. I often hear Christians as they speak of our national sins and their desire to be raptured, but there is no revival in that attitude. Yes, we are looking for the Rapture but godly saints want to win the lost while we look. The church world is full of false preachers and prophets prophesying lies in the name of the Lord. While we must defend truth and expose error, God is bidding us to “cry and sigh” for these abominations until God speaks out of His Heavenly place and comes down.

If the saints will surrender to “vicarious intercession,” the Spirit will break our hearts with the sins of our land and of His house. Then, our God will act. He has promised, and His promises are set in stone. We were chosen to be “labourers together with God” (I Corinthians 2:19a). When you say, “I’m not guilty of all the sins in our churches and nation,” you must remember that He was not guilty either. We are only asked “to feel the guilt.” He was made to be the “guilty one.” Were it not for the grace of God, all of us would be in the same condition as our unclean world.

As I have sought after Him and “vicariously interceded,” He by His Spirit has shown me where I almost followed strange doctrines or fell into sin, but He rescued me. I have been led to remember the dark sins of my unconverted state and how He convicted me and washed me and even forgave me when I fell. It did not take long for me to be willing to accept the feelings of guilt that I would have known and to identify with the broken church and the unclean world. When a godly saint can weep while they bare the burdens of offended holiness right into the presence of God, revival is not far away. “Oh that my head were waters, and mine eyes a fountain of tears, that I might weep day and night for the slain of the daughter of my people!” (Jeremiah 9:1).
