Whom The Spirit Hath Made Free

We live in a world full of bondage.

Multitudes are in bondage to fear, anger, unforgiveness, illicit sex, drugs, alcohol, and many more powers. Many in our modern world are bound by spirits of darkness and horribly wicked powers. Satan is truly real and dark.

Without one doubt of failure, Jesus Christ has provided perfect victory for you to be free. It does not matter what your bondage is, you can be completely delivered and set free. Do not let any one convince you that Jesus Christ has not come to deliver you. Listen to Him state clearly His glorious freedom: “Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin. And the servant abideth not in the house for ever: but the Son abideth ever. If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.” (John 8:34-26) This is a finished redemption.

One more promise by Jesus Christ can help you to have faith and see this freedom in your life. In St. John 10, our Lord tells us what the devil has done and is doing, but then shows us what He has done. He said, “I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture. The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep.” (John 10:9-11) My friends, you can be free of every bondage in your life.

Paul the apostle gave us the contrast look at the old life under sin and the law and then the new life in the power of the Holy Spirit. This is probably the greatest picture of the contrast in the Bible. Always remember that nothing can be understood better than a contrast picture. The world does this all the time in trying to sell their wares. The cosmetic world does it. The vitamin world does it. In fact, it is the biggest tool advertisers use.

This great concept is seen in the Book of Romans. The Apostle shows us the clear bondage of sin when the person is still bound in the nature of Adam. He is clear that no one, not even himself could keep God’s law by the flesh life. The flesh of man is woefully bound in the bondages of the natural man. Fears, torments of anger and unforgiveness, and every work of the flesh are utterly bound in our old man.

The Holy Spirit is very plain in the words used to show this bondage. It is a horrible picture to see what this old man does to the person still in sin and unredeemed. Here is how he states it: “If then I do that which I would not, I consent unto the law that it is good. Now then it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me. For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not.” (Romans 7:16-18) This kind of bondage does not belong to the new life in Christ. Many churches use these words to condone living in sin and in the process leave these people bound to all kinds of bondages.

The words of the Holy Ghost continue: “For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do. Now if I do that I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me. I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me.” (Romans 7:19-21) Apostle Paul had been an exceptional Jewish leader while yet in sin. He kept the law but his heart was wicked. I see and hear this same darkness all over the church world. Our modern day church is so clearly like Israel was when Jesus came and introduced His new life. They rejected Him because they loved their sins.

I love the way this man of God put it all in clear statement. “O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death? I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin.” (Romans 7:24-25) Please do not misunderstand the last statement above. When he said the mind serves God but my flesh serves sin, he was simply showing the helplessness of the flesh. He was not condoning living the wicked life.

But the contrast is breathtaking. There can be no question if you read the words clearly. “There is therefore “now” no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.”(Romans 8:1-2) This is one of the most powerful statements in the Holy Bible about the deliverance of man/woman from the bondage of sin. This new life is a life of victory but only if you have been “Born Again.” Man that is born again has been changed by the Blood, the Word of God, and the Holy Spirit. The new life is the Spirit within that changes everything.

The law was good as a teacher and a schoolmaster, but woefully weak in the Spiritual realm. “For we know that the law is spiritual: but I am carnal, sold under sin.” (Romans 7:14) The law gives us God’s will but the law cannot perform God’s will. Neither can you in your flesh. This is where the Spirit of the Lord makes the difference.

Now let’s read the truth in chapter eight where Paul shows us the contrast. “For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh: That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.” (Romans 8:3-5) This is the most wonderful life on the face of this earth. The Spirit of God comes to set man free from the bondage of sin. Why would anyone ever want a life other than this life? On and on the Spirit shows us the freedom in this great truth.

If you think you can still live the Christian life while bound by all kinds of bondages and sins, please read these words again. Look at the central verse of this chapter. It is plain that even this “mortal” man can be transformed, renewed, and set on the path of victory. These words are beautiful. “But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.” (Romans 8:11) This entire chapter is loaded with victory and Godly living.

This is truly a beautiful contrast. The old life bound and cheap and the new life full of God and victory. If you live after the flesh, you shall die. This flesh kills a host of people long before their life is finished. “Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh. For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.” (Romans 8:12-13) Today you can be free. The life of Christ is waiting for your invitation for the Lord to take control. If you think you cannot do it, you are right. But if you are willing to turn it all over to Him, He is ready. Repent of your sins and turn wholly to Him. Believe as you repent that His blood is washing you white as snow. The power of the sin nature is broken by His power to save. He has never lost one person that gave it all over to Him.

  1. Dear Pastor

When i think about fear, do i want fear, of course not. But to much fear of the things of this world can make me lose the real fear that i need, which is the fear of the Lord.

He is in charge; not floods, tornados’s, freezing cold, economic destruction, famiy breakdown military attacks, what ever the world throws at us. The Heavenly Father calls the shots!

We shall wait patiently for his calling.

    God Bless
