THE HORRIBLE TORMENTS OF HELL

THE HOLY GHOST HAS OVERWHELMED ME WITH MAKING THE TORMENTS OF HELL REAL TO THIS GENERATION. I confess that studying this subject is not easy on my heart. I would love to know that Hell or the Lake of Fire was all untrue, but then I would also know that the death of Jesus Christ to save our soul was untrue. His death was the grandest expression of the Father’s love for condemned souls. The Father gave His Eternal Son to die a cruel death that man might be saved from eternal destruction. That Son actually experienced “Hell” on the cross. He was separated from the Father and paid the ransom for our freedom. Now we know that “hell” and the “Lake of Fire” must be real. The Cross proves the existence of “Everlasting Judgment” TORMENTS! Its overwhelming to consider the multitude of TORMENTS that will last forever. But to add the “TORMENT” of demons that are now in the Bottomless Pit of Hell is almost to much to consider. First they will be turned loose on the earth during the Seven Years of Great Tribulation. “And he opened the bottomless pit; and there arose a smoke out of the pit, as the smoke of a great furnace; and the sun and the air were darkened by reason of the smoke of the pit. And in those days shall men seek death, and shall not find it; and shall desire to die, and death shall flee from them. (Revelation 9:2,6) This is a little of the first wave of these dark spirits. The second wave get worse and one third of the living on earth will die at their hand. Now realize that this horde (multiplied millions) of grotesque demons which have festered in their wicked state will torment everyone that is sent to the lake of fire. This TORMENT will be day and night forever. Consider the many other torments and then add “Grotesque and wicked Demons”that smell like rotten death tossing you from one side of that pit to the other, clawing and biting and creating indescribable pain. But you will remember that Jesus Christ died to save you from that hell.

  1. This may have been short, Pastor Joseph, but it certainly is powerful and accurate.

I believe that the Bible indicates something that will make the torment of hell even worse for those who end up there. First, let’s look at three passages.

Matthew 8:11-12 And I say unto you, That many shall come from the east and west, and shall sit down with Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven. But the children of the kingdom shall be cast out into outer darkness: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth.

Jesus was referring specifically to the Jews which refused to believe in his own time, but there is no reason not to think this doesn’t apply to Jew and Gentile alike of all times and places.

Next we have Jesus’ response to the high priest Caiaphas in regard to whether he was the Christ, the Son of God:

Matthew 26:64 Jesus saith unto him: Thou hast said: nevertheless I say unto you, Hereafter shall ye see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power coming in the clouds of heaven.

Notice Jesus said that the men who condemned him will see him at God’s right hand in heaven. Since they have long been dead, this is telling us that even their physical death will not prevent them from seeing Jesus with God in heaven.

Finally we have this from Paul:

Philippians 2:10-11 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in the earth, and things under the earth. And every tongue confess that Jesus is Lord to the glory of God the Father.

Again, this reveals that the time is coming when every person, dead or alive, on Earth, in heaven, or in hell, will have to acknowledge who Jesus really is.

Can you imagine the horror and anguish of all those in when they are finally forced to admit this truth and realize that they themselves are responsible for their fate? This memory of what they have lost will no doubt add to their torment – FOR ALL ETERNITY!

  2. It is very sad when we see the truth in front of us and we know it but others ignore it. About 2 weeks ago I called in to the radio show and explained to brother Chambers how I had back slidden after I spoke at my church. I had a few drinks in stead of relying on the Trinity to take care of the matter. We all too often go back to what we know when are not with the ordained as told to be in the Holy Word of God. I have since been delivered and getting strongerv as rely on the fullness of God’s authority to reveal himself more and more as I use to. My point is this. If a christian can slide back. Which the Word says can happen. Me being a perfect example of this sin. I am also an example to the fact that he will bring you back to him as long as you trully repent. I know what his glory is like. So at the same time i guess we can imagine to a point what the total opposite will be like. Knowing who he is and that we caused ourselves to be lost foreever in a never quentching fire.

  4. The word “Hell” does not appear either in the Hebrew or Christian Bibles in their original
texts ( Hebrew and Aramaic or Greek for that matter.)

In the Hebrew Bible the only word translated “Hell” is Sheole which in English means
    the grave.

In the Christian Bible there are two. One is aramaic “Gehenna” which was the name given to
the refuse dump outside the gates of ancient Jerusalem, and the other is greek and only
used once only in Revelation “Tartaroo”, which means a place of restraint, that is reserved
for the imprisonment of the “Fallen Ones”.

The Western world’s concept of “Hell” comes from a 13th century play, “Inferno” by Dante.

  5. > Hell, Hades, whatever it’s the opposite of eternal bliss w/our Lord Jesus Christ, this forever place of terror (horror) or a sea of atomic fission?! The one thing lacking in Sunday morning servicestoday > While in prayer sometime back (Jan 4th 10:45P of 04) the Lord allowed me (in transit) to experience just the absents of ‘Him’ and anything good along w/total helplessness and absolutely NO HOPE, ‘this’ alone was very bad, what more horrors to those that go ‘there’ by not excepting Jesus, the Perfect Sacrifice. Scripture tells us that the ‘worm’ will never die, most likely this worm will be some sin idol that would be programmed to get worse and worse, even when ‘time’ will be no more after a measure of 100 trillion yrs that ‘day’ will be like a picnic in another measure of time of a 100 trillion yrs – this is exactly why Jesus spoke more about this place of torment than He did about Heaven.

  6. However Real The Lake Of Fire and The Flames of Hell Are,
The Worst Torment for the Lost Is Separation From GOD.

As brother Ed Wood has pointed out from the Quoted Passages,
we notice that there is no mention of screams from the tortured.

The Lost are not tortured by demons in Hell, nor do they scream
from pain inflicted by Satan and his minions, who are even worse off
being with their master for Eternity in the place where they had dispatched
all those they had deceived, and that they now have to confront.
    (Isaiah xiv:6,9-11,16-17)

They wail and gnash their teeth at their Loss, and even if there are torturer-demons
I don’t think they will even notice them !

Realizing WHO JESUS IS and yet having rejected HIM for the place
they now end up at is the Worst of Torments.

I don’t know if there will be some relief for these poor souls,
BUT GOD BEING WHO HE IS : THE ONE WHO TAKES NO PLEASURE In the
death of the wicked(Ezekiel xxxiii:11), we can expect and hope IN HIS MERCY.

However let us not find out about IT the hard way, and keep in mind
only that Hell is the place to absolutely avoid, and that THE ONLY
WAY Away from it IS JESUS-CHRIST.

  7. Is all that “forever torment” Biblical? I struggle to find it in my Bible. I guess a few pages must be missing. If you grab a Strong’s Concordance and look up the four Biblical definitions of “hell” I am sure you will see things somewhat differently. Here, let me help you; The four words are (1) “Sheol” #7585(used 31 times) from the Old Testament and its description is as follows: grave; by extension, realm of death, deepest depths, hell, grave pit grave’s (sorry, there is nothing shown there that gives any clue of “everlasting fire, suffering and torment and blackest darkness (Deuteronomy 32:22). (2) “Gehenna” (used 12 times #1067) from the New Testament and its description is: hell, “Valley of Hinnom” from “the Valley of the children of Hinnom” a man-made hell where men made their sons and daughters pass through the fire to Molech or Moloch (2 Kings 23:10; Jeremiah 7:31; 19:2-6; Amos 5:26; Acts 7:43) a place where the Jewish apostasy or desertion or departure, the heathen or pagan rites of Molech, were celebrated (1 Kings 11:7). The location was converted by King Josiah into a place of abomination, where dead bodies were thrown and burn (2 Kings 23:13, 14). Hence the place, Gehenna then served as a symbol and the name was appropriated to designate the abode of lost spirits. In this same way the term was employed by our LORD [Unger’s Bible Dictionary]. Jesus describes Gehenna as a place where “their” worm (or shame) not their body or soul, never dies (or ends) and their “fire” (or their shame) is never to be quenched (“For our God is a consuming fire”-Hebrews 12:29). (3) “Hades”, hell (Strong’s #86) definition: the grave, the place or state of the dead, also refers to “the underworld” region of the departed, the intermediate state between death and the resurrection–as this will only be for the true believer–since there is not resurrection for the lost. The three basic ideas associated with the concept of hell are reflected: 1. absence of righteousness 2. separation from God and 3. judgment [The Zondervan Pictorial Dictionary]. Judgment, or execution, is the sentence that is passed on to the individual soul at the time of their death (Genesis 5:5). This meaning for “hell” is used eleven times in the New Testament. (4) “Tartaroo, hell (Strong’s #5020) means: to send to hell, hold captive in Tartarus; a derivative of the Greek noun “Tartarus,” a place of troture and torment lower than Hades and found in non-canonized Greek and Jewish apocalyptic literature but NOT FOUND in the Bible’s New Testament. The Biblical meaning is: “to incarcerate,” as in a grave [Unger’s Bible Dictionary]. This application of hell is use ONLY ONE TIME in 2 Peter 2:4 and it pertains NOT TO HUMAN SOULS but rather to the angels that were thrown out of heaven.

  8. James,

To know if the “forever torment” is biblical, see the following:

Matt 18:9 – And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: it is better for thee to enter into life with one eye, rather than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire.

Mark 9:43-48 – And if thy hand offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter into life maimed, than having two hands to go into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched: where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched. And if thy foot offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter halt into life, than having two feet to be cast into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched: Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched. And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out: it is better for thee to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye, than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire: Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.

Luke 16:23 – And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.

Rev 14:9-11 – And the third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead, or in his hand, the same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb: And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name.

Rev 20:10, 15 – And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever…And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.

I pray this helps you see how real and eternal Hell, and eventually the Lake of Fire, is – especially since Jesus warned about eternal damnation so often (as in the above mentioned scriptures).

  9. Sheol, Gehenna, Hades, Tartarus, And The Lake Of Fire.

Bad Places all and none with savory company.

And our LORD Expressly DECLARED for us not to fear
    anyone, be he Satan himself, who can only kill the body;
But to fear THE ONE WHO HAS AUTHORITY TO THROW body
(be it angels’ bodies !)and soul into hell.

Body And Soul, our LORD’S LANGUAGE CANNOT BE CLEARER.
    (Matthew x:8 And Luke xii:5)

  10. Pastor Chambers I agree with you on most subjects but I do not think that demons are going to be torturing people in Hell. I do agree that they will be released upon the earth during the Great Tribulation as per Holy Scripture. I see no Biblical basis or scripture to where the damned are tortured in Hell by Satan or his demons. I am not minimizing the anguish or torments of Hell. The fact is that the damned will be burning forever in an unquenchable fire where the worm dieth not. I can not even begin to imagine or realize the utter torture and hopelessness and pain that must befall the sinners in Hell. I think if our minds could comprehend the utter horrors of Hell that it would drive us insane. In fact I feel that Hell needs to be preached from the pulpit as often as possible because people have lost their fear of Hell and that is a scary thought. Satan and his demons will be judged and serving their eternal torture and will have no time or power to torture hummans that are damned. Hell is a judgment from God and not a free reign for demons to torture humans. Satan and his demons are not lords over Hell as is portrayed in a Dantes Inferno type understanding.

  11. It does n’t matter or you do believe these things or not. In spite of it is true.
    Hell willbe Without GOD
Take care that you belong to the LORD and live with Him and in eternity.
And preach the gospel to every one, otherwise they will be there in that awfull place without GOD

  12. Cees, you make an outstanding point that Hell will be a place without God. What makes the thought of Hell so terrifying is not only the physical anguish and agony but the mental agony and anguish. How many times throughout the eons and eons of eternity will a person in Hell remember the exact time or times that they rejected the Lord Jesus Christ but instead decided to partake in their sinful desires. There is perfect peace in the prescence of the Lord but in Hell there will be no peace at all but rather no rest day or night as per the Bible. I would desire that people would be like it was in the past when the Churchworld was serious with God and did not play games to where the thought of everlasting torment and horrors of hell made people just run to the altar and weep before the Lord and pray through. One particular torment of Hell that has always struck me is the thought of being thirsty for all eternity. That in itself would be an epitome of torment besides the everlasting and unquenchable fire. What a revival we could see in the Churchworld if preachers would start warning people about their sinful consequences in relation to eternity instead of tickeling their ears with todays lukewarm preaching.

  13. Pastor Chambers and you brothers and sisters In CHRIST,

Allow me a little fancy about a short story I read long ago, about a man trying to sell
his soul to Satan, who appears in a very modern office setting complete with IBM machines,
the only giveaway is that all the typists are Virgins Of Nuremberg !

The gist of the story is in C.S.Lewis’ “The Screwtape Letters” line : hell is after all
    all bureaucratic-nasty-business.

The hapless soul-seller waits months after months for the profits from his trade,
but gets told every time that his transaction paperworks are wanting.
At the end of the story he runs toward The Church !

But the crowning moment for me is when he inquires with Satan about what will be in store
for him in Eternal Damnation. And Satan warns him that he better not knows. But he insists,
    and Satan grants his wish.

Upon seeing it the poor man recoiled in horror :
“This is absolutely inhuman ! I prefer to be tortured by demons in hell !”
To which Satan replies “As for torture, my demons still have much to learn from you humans.”

For what our character sees there is an unending Self-Criticism which is the worst torment
    hell has to offer !

Of course, with its Cold War hints, the story dates back to the late 50s or early 60s,
I don’t remember exactly. But the main point here is that Self-Criticism is the devil’ s
counterfeit of CHRISTian Confession (James v:16).

The Purpose Of Confession Is For Repentance And Forgiveness(Matthew iii:6, I John i:9)

The purpose of Self-Criticism is for debasing yourself before your accuser and accusers,
and get a self-damnation without appeal or Repentance, to the unmitigated glee of the devil.

    For the devil hates Repentance.

Pastor Chambers and brothers and sisters In CHRIST, telling this story is just to lighten
the atmosphere. But if I have erred on the side of flippancy, I will stand corrected.

    GOD BLESS You.
