Amen, Brother.
Preach it and proclaim the truth. We work for the right to be kings and priest in His kingdom. We will be rewarded for the work we do that is built on the Rock. Nothing else will endure the revealing truth of the test by Holy Fire. Only the person with Christ in his heart will stand, but if no works have been accomplished, he will be saved, as though by fire. We don't know what the position will be in the kingdom for a person who has done nothing for God. I am reminded of the parable of the talents. To me, the most valuable thing on this earth to a Holy God, is His Word. If you don't share it with others and profess Jesus Christ in your daily living and reach out to your brethren to spread the Good News of the coming Kingdom of God and the death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ, God will hold you accountable. How will that play out? Note the end of the lazy servant in the talents. To keep what Jesus has done for each of us hidden in the ground is almost inexcusable in my opinion. By grace we are saved, but we are expected to be conformed to the image of Jesus Christ as humanly possible this side of glory and to be anything but an ambassador of Jesus Christ is folly on a redeemed sinner by grace. Let's all get to working spreading the Gospel around to our fellow man.

Thanks very much, Pastor Joseph for clarifying a topic rarely articulated. We are saved by believing in Jesus' atoning sacrifice for our sins. That belief is the ONLY WORK we need to do (John 3:16-18; 6:28-29).

We are rewarded according to any other works we do as a result of that belief.

It is unfortunate that many churches still teach that we must add anything to Jesus' sacrifice of himself to "complete our salvation."

I see that as a real insult to Jesus because it says what he did wasn't enough!

As for the "elders", they can't be "church saints". Why not? Because both the 24 elders AND the 4 beasts are singing the "new song". The 4 beasts are either cherubim (Ezekiel 1) or Seraphim (Isaiah 6:2). Therefore, they are not redeemable beings. Once angels fall, they stay fallen (2 Peter 2:4; Jude 6), so if the 4 beasts can't be singing the new song about themselves, then neither can the 24 elders, because all 28 are singing the new song TOGETHER. It's an all-or-none effect. That's why the Alexandrian manuscripts (the earliest manuscripts) have the 28 of them singing about the redeemed in 3rd person plural ("them"; "they shall reign") rather than 1st person plural in Revelation 5:9,10. Not only the Alexandrian manuscripts, but the Byzantine Majority also has them singing about the redeemed in 3rd person plural in verse 10. The elders are angelic beings.

How can Gil be so confused. WE have not yet enjoyed the Marriage Supper. That is no where taught in the Bible. It is obvious, the Marriage Supper is yet future and is literal. Thank you pastor for giving us such insights into what believers can expect in the near future. God Bless!

Note to Gil:

It is true that many visions are full of sights which are symbolic, but some can be also be very literal. Consider Paul's conversion experience on the road to Damascus (Acts 9.) Only Paul saw Jesus, those with him heard only the voice. So Paul was the only one who had a "vision" of Jesus. My point here is this was a very literal event, not a symbolic one.

When we read Revelation, if we are careful and diligent enough, we can determine what within it is symbolic or not. Where symbolism is involved, the meaning is generally also presented (e.g. Revelation 1:12-20, Revelation 17). The Book of Daniel is particularly adept at explaining the dreams and visions presented there.

Personally, I have found that to over-allegorize much of what is in the Bible often leads to error, such as the view that all of Bible prophecy was completed when Titus invaded Jerusalem in 70 A.D. Carried to the extreme, for example, I've heard the physical Resurrection of Jesus characterized as merely "symbolic" of a "spiritual resurrection" only.

I totally disagree with your interpretation as the Marriage Supper of the Lamb being what we already have had for 2000 years, nor is the "wife" of Jesus, the church currently "arrayed in fine linen." In my opinion, the present condition of the church would be more likened to that of an adulterous fiancee' totally unworthy to be Jesus' bride. This Marriage Supper is a literal event yet to come, the church at that time consisting of the glorified saints in heaven.

I believe in one reads the Bible from the point of view that any verse or passage must be evaluated from the context of all the rest of the Bible, it will lead to a much more accurate grasp of what is being presented. The Written Word must be taken in its entirety, just like the Living Word, who is Jesus himself.

But the most important thing we should do is to ask the Holy Spirit to help us in our Bible reading because we will need his assistance to give us the spiritual discernment we need to help us understand it. This is not to say we will ever understand everything, but reading the Bible is truly a matter of the journey being vital to us one day attaining the destination - a very literal and real New Jerusalem!
