Water is absolutely essential for
life to exist and continue. The average human could live several
weeks without food intake, but only a few days without water.
God designed our bodies to be
composed of 70% water. An adequate supply of water enables the
fluidity of blood to carry nutrients to the organs, glands,
muscles, nerves, and indeed to EVERY cell of which our body is
constructed!
Sometimes, an extreme example helps
to understand a point being made. Think of a desert. Remember
seeing pictures of animals having died from dehydration? The
same fate awaits the human, if deprived of adequate water.
A 1% deficiency of water leads to
thirst and a 5% deficiency may cause a slight fever because we
are water-cooled. An 8% deficiency is considered to be severe
dehydration, which affects glandular function. At a 10%
deficiency a person can no longer walk.
The brain is an organ which must have adequate water to
function. Remember the desert traveler who began to see mirages?
That is a form of delusion caused by dehydration.
When I moved into a rental house in
Florida, there was a swimming pool in the backyard. It was
filled with horrible green water and debris. A net was used to
dip out the debris and then large amounts of pool chemicals were
dumped in to “shock” the green stuff and make the water look
clear again. It was amazing, but instead of removing the
undesirable stuff, the chlorine just changed the appearance of
the water. Everything was still in the pool water, along with
the chemicals I dumped in.
The city I live in is one of the
worst environmentally damaged in the nation. Fifty years ago
some companies dumped their waste chemicals onto the ground and
into ponds. The chemicals leached down through the soil and
eventually contaminated the aquifers which supply several of the
wells from which the city water supply is drawn. Even large bays
have been contaminated and one bay now has brown water.
When a person bathes, the water
borne chemicals are absorbed through the skin and into the body.
What to do? My wife and I are blessed in that we were able to
have a whole house water filtration system installed. Countertop
filter systems are popular and beneficial and under the counter
systems are even better.
Avoid soft drinks. Tea is often a
diuretic and causes more liquid loss than is gained. A good rule
of thumb is to drink six to eight 8 ounce glasses of water daily |
