Harry Potter & Witchcraft
Many people write us about Harry Potter and seem to think that witchcraft is not real. Read what David Lloyd, a missionary in Haiti wrote us about such matters and Harry Potter.
David Lloyd -- A missionary in Haiti
As you know last year I taught 9th grade in the ACE school that I work at. Since most of my students were Haitian/American they had a lot of Harry Potter influence. I recall one of the movies coming out about then and it began a class discussion. I used a lot of Paw Creek Ministries information from your web site to point out a lot of the wrong in it. I was able to help many blinded eyes to see the light. Don't tell anyone but I also read the first book to become familiar with what is being thrown around about it. I do see a lot of the arguments about it being entertaining. It was a very entertaining book. Coming from a teacher point of view I also am encouraged by children wanting to read, so I can understand that argument. BUT how much good does one need to outweigh the bad. Growing up in the states one does not think much about witches and witchcraft as being real. But now that I have lived in Haiti for the past 6 years where Voodoo is a state religion, my eyes have been opened to just how real this stuff is. The is so much about Voodoo that resembles the Harry Potter book. We have spells, zombies, werewolves, curses (both good and bad), potions, sacrifices, drugs, different levels/degrees of witchdoctors, trances, the list can go on and on. I can understand peoples ignorance concerning this series but I challenge any Christian to see the witchcraft and can still believe this series is good for their children to read. Having read the first book and seeing and hearing the things we have in Haiti, I would never allow those books in my house nor attempt to read the others. I have seen enough to know not to play around with witchcraft because the Devil is very real and powerful. I am fleeing from the very appearance of evil.

P.S. One of our biggest battles here is when people get saved or they say they are good Christians they still go to Voodoo when times get tough or they get mad and want to curse somebody. It is has such a hold of them that it is almost impossible to break. This is why our ministry is focusing on children so we can hopefully get Godly thinking in them before Voodoo is ingrained into the minds and hearts. So this series is that much scarier when you see that it is getting the minds of our youth.
